Choosing a BJD skin tone is harder than it looks. Five options that all look similar in product photos can feel very different once you have them in hand — or once you are trying to match a head to a body.
This guide breaks down each MDollSchool skin tone so you can make the right choice before you order.
The five skin tones
MDollSchool offers five skin tones across all bodies and heads: Pearl, Snow, Cream, Peach, and Cocoa.
Snow is a cool white. No pink, no yellow — just clean, neutral white. It photographs very cleanly under studio lighting and works well for characters with a sharp, ethereal look. If you want the most neutral white possible, Snow is it.
Pearl is a warm white with a subtle pink undertone. It is the most classic BJD white — the kind of white most collectors picture when they think of a pale doll. Pearl reads as soft and delicate rather than stark.
Cream is a yellow-white, closer to ivory. It has a warmer, more natural feel than Snow or Pearl. Cream works well for characters that should look warm-toned or for collectors who find pure white too stark.
Peach moves away from white entirely. It is a pink skin tone with warmth and color — the closest to a realistic human complexion in the MDollSchool lineup. If you are going for a natural, lifelike look, Peach is the most intuitive choice.
Cocoa is the deepest tone in the lineup. It is a warm brown — not orange, not grey, but a clean medium-dark brown. Cocoa is the only option for collectors who want a darker complexion, and it is available on all MDollSchool bodies at a $20 surcharge.
How to choose
The easiest way to decide is to think about the character you are building:
- Cool, sharp, ethereal → Snow
- Classic pale doll look → Pearl
- Warm, ivory, natural white → Cream
- Realistic skin tone with color → Peach
- Darker complexion → Cocoa
If you are buying a head and body separately, match the skin tone exactly. MDollSchool resin is consistent within the same tone, but different tones will not match even if they look similar in photos.
